Abstract | This study aims to gather content validity evidence for the APBS questionnaire. Although validation based on test content is one of the most essential steps in instrument development, it is often neglected or insufficiently documented. Using deductive test construction strategies, definitions of the construct domains "unconditional prizing", "non-judgmental empathic understanding" and "congruence" were developed and 189 items were formulated. Ten subject matter experts evaluated the items' suitability in terms of relevance, unambiguity, and comprehensibility. Quantitative and qualitative data analyses indicated test content's appropriateness for assessing the intended construct. The least appropriate items were excluded or reformulated, resulting in a preliminary 114-item test version, which needs to undergo further validation studies.
