Abstract | The aim of the study is to research the attitudes of pupils and students aged twelve to 18 years towards endurance activities. The study consisted of 1148 primary school pupils and secondary school students of both genders, from urban and rural areas of Slovenia. The Attitude Toward Endurance Activities Questionnaire (ATEAQ) includes 19 items which represent two components of attitudes towards conditioning activities: the cognitive and the emotional component. The results of MANOVA analyses showed: a) both components of attitudes towards conditioning activities become more negative with age, b) boys and girls have different attitudes towards conditioning activities, c) in late adolescence, schoolchildren's attitudes towards competitive activities are relatively negative. To improve the attitude of young people towards these activities, physical fitness and healthy lifestyle, it is necessary for PE methods to adapt to specific gender and age-group demands.
