(DIPF/Orig.). Self-directed learning might need special impulses that can help the learner navigate through his learning process. This article presents and discusses instructional goal setting, a type of goal setting furnished with instructional elements, as a means to support self-directed learning. An example of such an instructional goal is presented in this article. This goal was implemented into a computer-based communication training and examined in an experiment with 159 students studying to become teachers. Several ANOVAs were conducted to measure the effects of instructional goal setting on the training, compared to a goal that emphasized the utility of the training and to a no goal condition. Instructional goal setting proved useful for supporting self-directed learning with regard to the learning process as well as the learning results. (DIPF/Orig.). |
