Abstract | The author discusses in which way WebQuests (WQ) have been used in his teacher training institute in Locarno, Switzerland to introduce the task-based approach to his student teachers. He presents the experiences of the past nine years in which developing a WQ has become a lot easier due to technological developments and the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills of the students who nowadays know how to upload videos, pictures and photos. To assess the quality of a WQ as an example of the TBL-approach, a WQ assessment tool based on Westhoff's penta pie model was used. This model contains the key elements of effective L2 learning. WQ remains a valid tool to expose students to realistic language use situations and an input of authentic language, but one could raise the question if the time spent on developing a WQ in teacher education is not better spent on other aspects of TBL or language learning methodology.
