Abstract | This article explores the evolution of the mixed nature into a Engineering School, The Female Polytechnic School. Founded in 1925 and intended only for women, it was opened to male students in 1994. Since the introduction of this reform, the number of female students has lowered down considerably, as to a 37% only nowadays. To try to understand this drop, [the authors] have chosen to compare women and men currently enrolled in this School under several criteria (motivation and orientation mechanisms towards the School, family influence, scholarship, professional projects). The results showed that women have the very same orientation strategies and professional projects than men. For both of them, it is a matter of, having a Degree that excludes the classic preparatory classes, being allowed to obtain a Generalist Engineer Title, despite of all. If the ladies apply less to the School it is because since about 20 years ago, the number of Female Schools has been multiplied and nowadays they chose to attend to the most in demand ones that their School Level allows them.
