(DIPF/Orig.). In order to comprehend the interrelation between the development of the social structure and of the educational situation especially in large cities, demographic changes, the process of socio-spatial segregation and the effects of the three-tiered school system must be taken into consideration. This [is] done in three steps. Subsequently, the effect of current trends of education policy on the described conditions will be discussed. Finally, the article will reconsider whether there is a pressure to change, which might soften or even outweigh the effects of demography, urban segregation and selective school system.
