Abstract | This article is the lead article to a special issue on "Immigration and Education". The author focuses on "conceptual and empirical work on one of globalization's three major constituents: immigration [especially] education of immigrant children in school settings. ... The article is structured along the following lines: Before turning to the education of immigrant children, I attempt to place the topic of immigration within parameters of the globalization of economics, societies, and cultures. Next, I turn to a number of non-obvious problems suggested by recent basic research on the children of immigrants. Lastly, I offer a series of questions for basic research in the field of education in the era of globalization." (DIPF/orig.) |
