Abstract	The knowledge society to which we are thrown to, requires important changes in the educative institutions. The university, as a center of production and extension of knowledge, will have to transform, proving, once again along the history, its adaptation skills when it comes to the changes and requirements of the present. This transformation will have to take account of all its human resources; this refers to women. Her presence in the universitary institution, as well as the study areas she's represented, the degree percentages achieved, her insertion in the labour market, etc., are discussed in this paper focusing in the framework of the European Union and Spain. It concludes that a real and effective equality between both sexs has not yet been achieved, although women's access rate to high studies overwhelms men's. (DIPF/orig.)
