| Abstract | This article examines the movement of human resources in science and technology, with special focus of the repatriation of South Korean scientists from overseas. ... [It] focuses on three important trends that reflect an important shift in human resources: overseas study, the migration of highly educated personnel, and the repatriation of Korean scientists and engineers. Based on statistical information and interview data, the article discusses how the changing status of Korea in the world economy has affected the movement of Korean human resources in science and technology. It also argues that, while the international scientific community has had and will continue to have a hierarchy that parallels the uneven status of nations in the world economy, it is also a dynamic domain in which nations struggle for more power and autonomy in the production of scientific knowledge.
