| Abstract | The paper reports the findings of a small-scale empirical study in the mentioned province. It was revealed that, as in Western countries, only a relatively small minority of senior management team members in the schools are female. In spite of this "there was universal insistence that men and women were treated equally". The researchers also asked for the reasons of the unibalance and three explanatory themes emerged: " 1) The responsability for housework and childcare; 2) tradition, culture and authority; and 3) the inherent qualities of women and men". Respondents also identified "some of the strength that women bring to management that are complementary to those that men may bring". (DIPF/Bi) |
