Abstract | Comments on the articles included in the special issue on learning through communication of German Journal of Educational Psychology (ZPP 2016, 30 (2-3)). First, the overall landscape of this compilation is discussed in terms of the network of new findings, and a friendly critique is offered regarding aspects of argumentation and learning to argue that could be productively extended in future research. Then, a novel framework for epistemic cognition is briefly described and used as a lens to examine a handful of common themes found in the articles. It is aimed to offer a new perspective to thinking about argumentation and a new direction for studying the learning and teaching of this central practice, extending the new approaches taken in these articles.
