(DIPF/Orig.). Personal and social resources may be associated with positive effects supporting positive developments in children and adolescents. Thus, a resource questionnaire was constructed to assess the psychosocial resources of children and adolescents being 8 to 16 years old. It addresses six personal and four social resources: (1) perspective taking, (2) self-efficacy, (3) self-esteem, (4) sense of coherence, (5) optimism and (6) self-control as personal resources, and (7) parental support, (8) authoritative parenting, (9) integration in the peer-group and (10) school integration as social resources. In this study, [the authors] compare the resources of children and adolescents with and without psychosocial problems (clinical: N = 56 and non-clinical sample: N = 314 with a mean age of 10.2 and 11.7) to examine the validity of the constructed resource questionnaire. It was shown that the children and adolescents in the clinical sample report less personal and social resources than their counterparts in the non-clinical sample. These results are also reflected in the parental reports. Moreover, the correlations between the resource scales are consistently lower in the clinical than in the non-clinical sample. The results support the validity of the resource questionnaire and underline the significance of promoting the personal and social resources of children and adolescents (e. g. in family or school contexts) to contribute to the prevention of psychosocial problems.
