Abstract | Interview and survey data in China suggest a high degree of patriotism, and Western public opinion polls reveal that many people see China as the world's second most powerful country. Yet Chinese Internet surveys find that Chinese citizens still lack self-confidence in dealing with Westerners. The authors explain this seeming paradox by suggesting as one of the main reasons that Chinese media often present the West as better than it really is. (As Provided). |
