Abstract | On 11 and 12 October 2010, the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education held its second annual "Student Equity in Higher Education National Conference" in Melbourne, Australia. The conference theme was "Aspiration, Mobility, Voice". During the conference the three keynote speakers--Gareth Parry (University of Sheffield, UK), Jane Kenway (Monash University, Australia) and Christine Hockings (University of Wolverhampton, UK)--and a panellist from one of the plenary sessions--Julie McLeod (University of Melbourne)--were each invited to respond to three questions: (1) How do you understand "student equity" in the context of a global higher education field?; (2) How do the concepts of "mobility", "aspiration" and "voice" help us to re-conceive of the issues of student equity in higher education?; and (3) What implications for policy and practice follow from thinking about student equity in terms of "mobility", "aspiration" and "voice"? This article presents their responses which are collated in a mock dialogue. Links to videos of these interviews are listed at the end of the article. (ERIC). |
