Abstract | Throughout history, gifted writers have enriched the human experience with the power and beauty of words. These literary masters enlighten people to universal truths, expand their minds to new ideas and visions, and challenges them to advance civilization. Exposing gifted students to the vast realm of important literature can inspire them to find their own voices and attain personal growth while making contributions to their culture. Their natural inclination to explore ideas and manipulate linguistic expressions endows gifted children with the potential to become great writers. Unfortunately, little emphasis is placed on writing instruction in both general and gifted education. Teachers can increase the emphasis on writing instruction in their own classrooms by providing more opportunities for students to express themselves in meaningful ways. This article provides suggested writing activities that are embedded in the study of literature. These activities were designed for the unique characteristics of gifted students. (ERIC). |
