Abstract | Anti-Blackness is a form of racism that devalues Black life and systematically marginalize Black people. Structural racism and Anti-Blackness are deeply entrenched in the very fabric of America. For much of the nation's history, racial discrimination and oppression were legalized and socially accepted. Too often Black people and in particular, Black men have been associated with crime. The image of Black people being criminal, aggressive, and threatening is commonplace in America's narrative. Because Black people and men in particular are often associated with crime, too often Black people have conflictual and negative experiences with law enforcement. Because of this reality many Black parents and families have "the talk" with their children about how to interact with the police. (ERIC). |
