AbstractThis article advances the discussion about "Going paperless," how it will save ink and paper, perhaps even a tree over the course of a semester. The author mentions that the sustainability task force on campus may present an award, while eco-conscious students may applaud the willingness of faculty to "go green." Still other students may appreciate how instructors have extended their print allotment or eliminated the need for them to purchase more ink cartridges and printer paper. Flamm concludes that ultimately, "going paperless" is not a panacea for all that ails--or at least aggravates. It will not end the tedium or drudgery of grading, and it will not magically transform the prose of students, but electronic submission of student work can help instructors become more efficient and effective teachers even if it is not likely to result in the "paperless office" anytime soon.
