AbstractIn this article, the authors respond to Jerzy Trzebinski's "Narratives and understanding other people." The first author's viewpoint comes from his work as a doctor, a psychiatrist, and a social psychiatrist preoccupied with rehabilitation and recovery for people with severe mental illness. According to him, Trzebinski's work raised important ethical issues about truth as well as persuasion, as well as raising major ethical implications for applied drama in appreciating that producing a compelling story with the "ring of truth" is only half of the job--to be useful it also needs to be based on sound evidence underwriting its authenticity. The second author supports Trzebinski's argument that stories enhance learning and that performed stories have a particular effect. He also points out how Trzebinski's article helped him to understand his own fascination with drama and its stories. (ERIC).
