Abstract | The best way to eliminate the persistent achievement gap is to eliminate poverty. But that is a monumental challenge that will not be achieved soon. In the meanwhile, neither we as a society, nor the low-income families among us, can afford to wait for poverty to be eliminated to raise the affected children's educational achievement. Research tells us there are many actions and dispositions that teachers and administrators can take today, not to raise low-income students' test scores but to improve educational opportunity.
