Damascus University (Arabic: جامعة دمشق), established in 1923, is the oldest and largest public research university in Syria, located in the capital city of Damascus. This article provides a comprehensive examination of its historical evolution, institutional structure, academic programs, and contemporary challenges. Originally founded through the merger of a Medical School (1903) and an Institute of Law (1913), the university has played a pivotal role in higher education in the Arab world.
