Abstract | "This book adds to and extends the literature on politics, migration, and power, using higher education as an example of the ways both nation states and individuals make choices and seek partners on the geopolitical stage. With a focus on Africa and Russia, this book traces the history of contact between the two regions, from the era of the Tsars, through the reign of the USSR, to the current agenda of the Russian Federation. During each time period-higher education, geopolitics, and Black studies are woven together to create a patchwork of knowledge, each era with shifting values and purposes that influence diplomatic relations between Africa and Eurasia. This book is a multidisciplinary examination of African-Russian relations, spanning the fields of education, history, political science, and sociology. Using higher education as a case study in soft power, this book delves into the ways both the State and the Student engage in critical geopolitics"--Provided by publisher. |
