"Preparing to Lead - Narratives of Aspiring School Leaders in a "Post"-COVID World will focus on how graduate students in educational leadership preparation programs are experiencing their simultaneous preparation for leadership roles in the K-12 setting while working in schools in several districts across the United States. Additionally, chapters will focus on how these graduate students consider, learn and understand their role as aspiring leaders during this "post" crisis world and how the unique challenges affect their leadership development. Recent scholarship has found that the COVID-19 pandemic has expedited plans to leave the principalship. According to the National Association of Secondary School Principals, 45% of 1,000 school principals surveyed said the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated plans to exit the principalship. To put this into perspective, there are approximately 1800 public schools in New York City's public school system, including charter schools. If this estimate were realized in the largest school district in the country, that would leave 810 schools without building administration. This also means that aspiring principals will be entering schools in large numbers, under crisis conditions, expected to lead in ways we know do not prepare them for the principalship"--Provided by publisher.
