Abstract | Also known as unschooling this type of home education is based on the idea that everyone learns best when they are interested, instrinically motivated and operating in a real world scenario. Children, and their interests, are shown respect and they can explore their interests for as long or as deep as they wish to. Respectful parenting plays a huge role in this model as there is no separation between what is parenting and what is education. Life and learning are integrated and real. Inspired by and similar to Playcentre and Montessori philosophy, unschooling plants these models into a family, community based setting and is guided by meeting the needs of everyone involved. With plenty of outdoor adventures, travel, music festivals and time to play, the unschooling life has seen them flourish and grow into young adults who are self aware and doing what they love with measurable success while being postively contributing members of society. |
