Abstract | The author and her family spent a few weeks traveling through Central America last summer. A few years back, they had been to Guatemala, Belize and Costa Rica yet that was it, not much more exploration of their neighbors to the south. They decided on a short tour of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama and realized this would be a great opportunity to teach the girls how to be adventurous travelers and give them an opportunity to use their nascent Spanish language skills. In this article, the author talks about the importance of travel in developing language fluency. Knowledge of and appreciation for another language and culture will help children grow up ready for a complex and multi-cultural global economy. (ERIC). |
