Abstract | "What if?" might be the most powerful question in education. NAESP and Crayola challenge schools with that question every year in their Champion Creatively Alive Children grant competition. Schools are encouraged to ask questions such as: What if arts-infused learning thrived every day in schools? What if schools relied more on project-based authentic assessment rather than on standardized tests? What if parents and schools found ways to document and articulate the value of creative experiences? As the grant winners featured in this article exemplify, schools and their students blossom when an innovative idea germinates into a promising practice. The arts offer tremendous tools for exploring connections through every school subject and across language, societal, cultural, and geographic boundaries. This article presents the profiles of four schools whose principals dare to ask "What if...?" (ERIC). |
