AbstractWith roots going back to 1986, the Student Team on Alumni Relations or STAR was one of the first student-alumni groups in Canada and routinely attracted capable and enthusiastic volunteers. It offered to appreciative, albeit small, student audiences a suite of popular programs, including job shadowing and goodie boxes parents could send to their student on or off campus. STAR ambassadors were regulars at alumni events, where they exchanged stories of beloved professors and university traditions with alumni. And yet something important was missing from STAR. Exactly what came to light after a strategic planning exercise between the Queen's University and its alumni association. The group identified engaging the next generation of alumni as an underdeveloped element of Queen's alumni engagement framework. From this imperative for change came a transition to a student-led organization whose new name, the Queen's Student Alumni Association, signaled the strengthened link with the Queen's University Alumni Association. Together, these organizations redoubled their efforts to build awareness that today's students are tomorrow's alumni. In this article, the author discusses how Queen's University revamped its student alumni association. (ERIC).
