Abstract | This descriptive qualitative case study investigated the perceptions of dislocated workers offered program services through the Workforce Investment Act's (WIA) Dislocated Worker program in Minnesota. This research focused on recently dislocated workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own and hence were eligible for unemployment insurance. Semistructured interviews were conducted with a total of nine participants, who described their perceptions of their experiences of being offered services by the Minnesota Dislocated Worker program. The participants' perceptions were analyzed based on socially responsible human resource development. Participants confirmed they had reservations about using government services, and were stressed about career counseling and job search services. These results may stimulate further debate regarding public policies affecting dislocated workers, and implications for practice are provided along with future research suggestions.
