Abstract | In this article, the author discusses how campaigns soar, in ambitions and scope, as donor requirements grow more exacting. For a glimpse at the direction in which college and university fundraising campaigns are headed, take a look at the University of Colorado. The university system's foundation is conducting its most ambitious campaign, joining about three dozen institutions with a no-longer-rare billion-dollar-plus goal. Campaigns are growing more comprehensive, ambitious, flexible, and donor-centric, says veteran fundraiser Martin Wood, vice chancellor of university advancement and chief operating officer at the Colorado Springs campus. The four-campus University of Colorado (CU) is one of many institutions conducting its most aggressive, longest-lasting, and/or first-ever comprehensive fundraising drive despite uncertain economic times (and in many cases because of it). The good news is institutions are raising record sums of money, but there are challenges on the horizon. For now, campaigns in and of themselves continue to be a tool for focusing energy and stimulating excitement for donors, volunteers, and fundraising professionals. (ERIC). |
