AbstractTeachers' view of children and childhood is rapidly changing in response to the pressures of modern life, new research on brain development and learning, as well as the belief that many young children in the United States are not ready for school. There are powerful messages coming from commercial, social, and political interests, as well as from many factions in their profession, suggesting solutions. The author's view of children has been most profoundly influenced by the educators of Reggio Emilia in their work promoting a strong image of the child. In this article, the author shares stories that invite educators to reflect on how they see children by considering the stories and their own stories of the gifts children have offered them. (ERIC).
