Abstract | As a Black female faculty member with teaching experience at a historically Black university, I describe through personal narrative methodology my experience with othermothering, student-teacher relationships, and unwritten institutional policy. I focus on expectations that students have regarding faculty and institutional support and those that Black female faculty members impose on themselves. I also question the value and impact of othermothering as a practice. (Contains 4 footnotes.) (As Provided). |
