AbstractLibrary teachers can no longer do business as usual--their students' deep learning is at risk! Expanding current collection of books, CDs, and DVDs is progress, but library teachers cannot allow their facilities to become warehouses for information resources. Their library learning commons should be a place buzzing with the hustle and bustle of active learning. Library teachers can contribute to the construction of students' learning by incorporating Web 2.0 tools like Skype and Twitter in their lessons. Generating real-life questions would be a welcome contribution to help classroom teachers prepare students for state tests. Students would be encouraged to construct new perspectives as their knowledge is related to newly discovered information. Broadening paper and pencil lessons to include fundamental Web 2.0 skills expands the library walls to encompass the world of information. These actions will increase library teachers' partnership with the core classroom's educational efforts, promoting student engagement and participation while developing multiple intelligences and increasing peer collaboration.
