Abstract | In the United States and elsewhere, there is a dramatic shortage of engineers and technologists. And, unfortunately, these professions often suffer from a lack of awareness among K-12 students. Clearly, educators need to show students the very exciting and lucrative aspects of these fields. Engineering and technology are consistently listed by almost every career-ranking system as top choices in terms of both salary and opportunities, and students, especially at the secondary level, need to be informed of that. To that end, the faculty of the College of Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette designed a two-week Engineering and Technology Discovery Camp for students in the area. In this article, the author describes the camp in hope of providing information of use to other educators who might want to set up a similar program. (ERIC). |
