Abstract	The three generations--Baby Boomer (born between 1946 and 1965), Generation X (born between 1967 and 1975), and Generation Y (born between 1976 and 2000)--have different styles of communication, yet teachers of all ages still have to work together effectively. Teachers can improve their relationships with their colleagues if they understand more about their colleagues' generational characteristics and preferred communication styles. Despite the differences one may encounter with other teachers, there is one underlying characteristic that is essential for a productive workplace: respect for each other. Teamwork, discussion, planning, and productivity in a school are effective if staff show respect for each other on every occasion. Differences in opinion are key for challenging traditions and making changes as new teachers enter buildings, but respect for others and their experiences will create a more positive culture in any school. This article presents a primer on the three generations and a list of helpful tips for building a positive working relationship. (ERIC).
