Abstract | Alumni magazines have their designs on mobile devices. The efforts are tied together, no matter the platform, by a desire for the magazine to be where its readers are and a spirit of experimentation that is akin to what is happening with social media. None of the magazine editors went into this process with any numerical expectations for downloads--there was nothing to benchmark against--but they are all pleased with the success they have had to date, particularly because the numbers--hundreds for some and thousands for others--continue to increase from issue to issue. There is no way to know what the tablet and e-reader landscape will look like next year. What is likely is that alumni magazines will be looking to expand onto as many platforms as makes sense for their alumni, the magazine, the budget, and the institution. (ERIC). |
