Abstract | Selecting the most appropriate content for a community is a challenge librarians have faced since the dawn of libraries. Formal patron-driven acquisition (PDA) models have been around for at least a decade. These models attempt to collect materials based on known patron demand. Some libraries simply use a suggestion form, while others use interlibrary loan requests to generate acquisitions. The emergence of ebooks and the proliferation of e-readers, laptops, tablets, and cell phones provide still other opportunities for libraries to meet the demand for more electronic content and purchase content that patrons will use. This article describes the process one academic library went through to select, implement, and assess ebook patron-driven acquisition. (Contains 2 figures and 2 tables.) (ERIC). |
