AbstractIn an effort to address the issue of youth homelessness in Australia, Regional Extended Family Services (REFS) have developed a wilderness-based therapeutic intervention. REFS aim to provide early intervention services for young people at risk of homelessness, and their families. This study examined the outcomes of the REFS wilderness program by looking at those factors associated closely with the risk factors of homelessness, as measured by the Life Effectiveness Questionnaire (LEQ). The results from the LEQ showed significant improvement in the overall life effectiveness of the participants. When the results of the individual programs were compared significant differences were found to exist. Observer versions of the LEQ were completed by staff from referring agencies in order to validate participant responses. The observer results were consistent with those of the participants. (Contains 2 tables and 5 figures.) (As Provided).
