AbstractOne may ask the question, What is energy? Typically the first answers that come to mind are oil, coal, and natural gas or nuclear energy. Most human activities require some form of energy consumption. This may be the energy produced by the food that one eats or the gasoline that is used in cars, trucks, buses, and other vehicles. One cannot ignore the fact that he/she uses energy in work and recreation. One uses energy when he/she rides a bicycle to a store, takes a bus or airplane trip, or even talk on a mobile phone. However, one may give little thought as to where this energy comes from. Could other forms of energy, such as wind and solar energy, become major players in the energy mix? In looking at these forms of energy, one can see that some of them are renewable and others are not. This article focuses on windmills as a source of energy, its history, and the variety of professional and skilled-worker jobs available in the wind-energy sector.
