Abstract | The author is always on the lookout for new ideas, and found one with her state's new "grade-level expectations" in art. She had printed the expectations from the state department and bound them in book form for herself and other art teachers in her district. When the author was flipping through the booklet thinking, two things caught her eye: portraits and jewelry. This article presents an art project designed for lower-elementary students to create jewelry portraits. In this project, students draw a portrait of a person and create their own magazine beads, and use them in combination with store-bought beads to create a patterned necklace. This is a great activity for students who struggle with fine-motor skills. (ERIC). |
