Abstract | Four-year-olds are still learning through discovery of materials. They are excited to share what they have been doing with their parents. And although they are capable of working together under the direction of the teacher, they are much more excited to share individually. This article illustrates how family day in the 4-year-old music class can be a great way for these children to teach their families music lessons through "informance." The children act as "performers" presenting a program of songs, little plays, rhythms on classroom instruments, and/or movements. An informance invites the parents to experience the classroom as the children do. Through an informance, parents are not "entertained" as much as "informed". They are informed not only about course content but also about the teaching and learning process and what motivates their particular child in music class. (Contains 16 figures and 5 notes.) (ERIC). |
