Abstract | In this article, the author shares a story of a young couple who was arguing about the proper way to fold towels. The husband shared a story of how he had wanted to do something nice for his wife, who was studying. So he folded a load of towels and put them away. His wife then refolded the towels, explaining that he had folded them in half and that they would not fit into the linen closet unless they were folded in thirds. This author believes that the wife decided to re-fold the towels because of fear. The author opines that the story points to a new phenomenon: the wife who fears that if her husband contributes too much, she may be obsolete in the household. This story has served the author well as she speaks to engaged couples about the need to overlook small annoyances and focus on the "big stuff" in marriages. (ERIC). |
