Abstract | Of all the material in the English language arts curricula, poetry seems to cause the most consternation among teachers. For a number of teachers, and many students, poetry continues to be a difficult topic to teach and learn. In this article, the author focuses on the ways that young adult literature can help teachers expose their students to witty, worldly, and wonderful poetry. These are books that can be taught in class, or barring that, excerpted or simply recommended for the right readers at the right time. They will bring poetry to life for students, and show them that the genre contains much more than is anthologized in their literature textbooks. (ERIC). |
