AbstractIn this article, the author describes her experience as an Indigenous researcher conducting dissertation research on Passamaquoddy ideas of health and decision making in her home community and how these can be applied in contemporary tribal health decision-making processes. The author comes from Sibyig, on the edge, she is related to the people of the dawn. Here she reflects on her practice of applied Indigenous scholarship, focusing on how her position, inextricably situated within the collective, informed her research process. She describes her self-examination process, using a critical frame of reference, in dialogue with community members. A careful examination of the data collected in her dissertation research and her responses to the research process revealed four salient themes of translation, reciprocity, disclosure, and reconciliation. The author discusses how she recognized and negotiated the themes and offers her perspective as she struggled to understand and center Indigenous language and its teachings in her research. (Contains 41 notes.) (ERIC).
