Abstract | When a consultant advised the author and her family to move to a new area and make a separate wing for her son, Sean, the author realized that the consultant did not share her vision for Sean and how he integrates into the family. Instead of moving to a new area, the author decided to renovate the house to make it handicapped accessible for her son. The author describes how hard it would be to live through home renovations. In retrospect, the author found managing the renovations much like managing Sean's medical care wherein one could meet lots of folks and get lots of opinions. However, the author stresses that the most important thing is to identify what works and to create an environment where the family will thrive. (ERIC). |
