AbstractIn this article, the author offers suggestions for effectively addressing disability in and outside the classroom. She believes that a new vision for disability education that moves away from a limitations model and toward humanizing disabilities is crucial for campus communities. Through an introduction to universal design of instruction, universal design for learning, or universal instructional design, educators can learn to focus their pedagogy, assignments, and course or program objectives to reflect an awareness of ideal strategies for teaching different types of learners, including those with disabilities. Through curriculum infused with disability issues across a variety of courses, students can gain familiarity with and understanding of people with disabilities and disability in society. Colleges and universities are the ideal environment in which to begin to humanize society's view of disability and celebrate individual differences in all people. (Contains 19 resources.) (ERIC).
