Abstract | When students graduate from a tribal college or university (TCU), everyone in the community celebrates. They recognize the sacrifices the students have made, juggling their responsibilities as students, parents, and community members. Many people have contributed to this success, including the tribal college presidents. Eight tribal college presidents were interviewed for this article, and all eight say unequivocally that "seeing students graduate" is the most rewarding aspect of their work. In the interviews, the presidents discussed their goals, the challenges they face every day, and the experiences that prepared them for their positions. They also discussed several characteristics of an effective TCU president, which may provide ideas for future presidents. (ERIC). |
