Abstract | The Russian system of education in 2007 exhibited the persistence of the same tendencies as in 2006, relating to the demographic situation in the country. The number of students continued to decline in general secondary education (school education) and in primary and secondary professional education, but the numbers increased in preschool education and in higher professional education. From 2000 to 2007 the number of students enrolled in Russian general education schools fell by almost a third, and the number of teachers also declined. Some more reductions are needed to bring Russian schools in line with international figures, and budgets and educational goals will need to be reconsidered. In this article, the author discusses the main tendencies of the development of the system of education of the Russian Federation in 2007. (Contains 13 tables, 3 figures and 8 notes.) (ERIC). |
