Abstract | Teacher mentoring has its unique challenges that are often associated with the teachers' content specialties. For this reason, the involvement and support of school leaders is essential to teachers' mentoring success. Regardless of content specialty, all teachers face challenges that should be considered when organizing and implementing mentoring. Recent investigation of teacher mentoring and extensive review of the mentoring and induction literature suggest three areas of potential importance: mentoring content, mentoring practice, and mentoring culture. In this article, the authors discuss these three areas of teacher mentoring and offer recommendations that may help realize a mentoring program that benefits beginning and veteran teachers in all content specialties and, most important, their students.
