Abstract | This article describes how researchers can design and use a culture-sensitive intervention model to inform and influence attitudes of various cultural groups toward seeking professional counseling services. Special emphasis is given to the implications of culture specificity in the processes of designing and conducting intervention studies with particular ethnic groups. First, the article identifies deficits in the counseling literature and then discusses the design and framework of a culture-specific intervention that can serve as a model. The author uses the framework to design an ethnic-specific intervention applied to the case example of Korean Americans and test its influence on attitudes of Korean Americans in Virginia to illustrate how an intervention specific to a cultural group can be designed and implemented. The article concludes with a discussion of implications for institutional researchers who wish to design and assess culture-specific interventions targeted toward specific cultural groups. (ERIC). |
