AbstractStudents have used Cogito.org to pose and/or solve math problems and brain teasers, share their experiences in academic competitions, debate the pros and cons of using biofuels for energy, design an alien world based on sound scientific principles, and expand their cultural understanding by connecting with students from around the world. Cogito.org is a website and online community for students like these--students who are eager to learn, who thrive on discussing issues and ideas with peers and experts alike, and who want to make a difference in the world--students who may someday solve the world's most pressing problems. The vision for Cogito came from the John Templeton Foundation, which funded its initial development. Recognizing that scientific discovery and solutions to the world's problems require a pool of highly trained scientists and innovators, the website is intended to serve precollege students around the world who have exceptional abilities and interests in mathematics and science. The site was launched in December, 2006 by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) in partnership with eight leading organizations that serve gifted youth. This article provides an overview of what Cogito offers. (ERIC).
