AbstractIn this article, the author talks about a vision of the congregants at Congregation Beth Am, which informs their educational decision making and allows for authentic educational evaluation and assessment. Creating this vision in partnership with lay leaders has been a wonderful experience for the professionals of the synagogue. Their current vision (www.betham.org/missionvisionlearning.html) is the result of much learning, reflection, and conversation. Far more challenging than crafting such a vision is successfully communicating that vision to the congregants. The board of directors and educational leadership of the congregation helped shape the vision and are quite supportive of it. Less-involved congregants are mostly ignorant of the vision. When they do have the opportunity to learn more about it, they are sometimes unsupportive of or even opposed to it. The vision which helps the educators, teachers, and lay-leaders see so clearly is blurry for many members of the congregants. Here, the author stresses the challenge for congregants to find engaging and compelling ways to involve the entire community in conversations about their vision. (ERIC).
